Page 5 of the first edition states in bold letter...
"Cassowary (sic) can only become extinct if you want them to"
This stupid statement sends a pretty apathetic message and anyone with two brain cells can deduce that wishing cassowaries would become extinct is not the only way our species can push them over the edge of the precipice.
It also stated that Cassowaries are listed as vulnerable.WRONG
Our southern populations are listed as ENDANGERED according to the Commonwealth's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 not just vulnerable as the story incorrectly states
(4) A native species is eligible to be included in the endangered category at a particular time if, at that time:
(a) it is not critically endangered; and
(b) it is facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild in the near future, as determined in accordance with the prescribed criteria.
A very average piece of writing overall and I would have expected better and more accurate journalism from this magazine's first issue. I hope they lift their game in the following issues.
