Paronella Park

If your visiting or living in Mission Beach and have access to a car then I strongly recommend you go to Paronella Park, it is an easy 40 minute drive. They run a 45 minute guided tour every 30 minutes and then you get to wander around this fabulous park at your leisure. My mum is visiting from Victoria so I took her along, this was my third time and I really wanted her to enjoy it as much as I do, which she did, phew!

Mission Fitness

For a little place like Mission Beach, the local gym is a pretty popular place. I have been going to the afternoon aerobics classes (which are fantastic) and there are always heaps of people doing their own thing with the usual gym equipment. So if your looking for a quite, friendly place to get fit, try Mission Fitness!!

Subway in Mission Beach

People keep asking me. "Is there a Subway in Mission Beach?...Is there a MacDonalds in Mission Beach?....Where is Coles? .....Wow....Is there a Birch Carroll Cinema someone asked yesterday!!! No...!!!!!

Mum is coming to visit

After almost 2 years living in Mission Beach, my mum is finally coming to visit. I collect her from the airport in Cairns tomorrow. I can't wait to show her around town, so she will be able to see why I love living here. I'm hoping she gets some clear blue skies not just the rain we have had over the last couple of days.

Travelling by Coach

If your travelling in and out of Mission Beach on Greyhound or Premier then I would suggest that you buy your ticket early. Some of the coaches are already starting to fill up and this will only happen more and more as it gets busier over the next couple of months. I know its fun to cruise along sometimes but if you need to be somewhere at a certain time and day then get your ticket, its not fun if you miss out on things.

Rafting Weather

We are expecting a bit of wet weather in Mission Beach this weekend. This does not mean that you have to stay indoors.Why not go white water rafting on the famous Tully River?!! There are two company's that raft the Tully and both will pick you up from wherever you stay in Mission Beach. Rafting is a great, fun day out regardless of the weather conditions.

Winter is Here

Winter has come to Mission Beach early this year it seems. I have had the old PJ's out the last couple of nights. Going to have to go and buy some ugg boots in Cairns this week for sure!!

How good is the weather

I know I know I shouldn't always be bragging about how fantastic the weather is here in Mission Beach, but seriously it has been absolutely heavenly for the last 4 days. I can't help but tell my friends and family from down south, a bit mean I know but I'm feeling quite smug about where I live at the moment. You should come and enjoy it too!

What to do in Cairns

Lots of travellers going north to Cairns from Mission Beach this weekend. I have been helping people organise trips to Cape Tribulation, Great Barrier Reef trips, skydives, sea kayaking and much much more......now I want to go on holidays too.

Sea Kayaking to Dunk Island

I am really wishing that I wasn't working tomorrow as it is going to be a great day for sea kayaking to Dunk Island. I know that Coral Sea Kayaking are taking out a full day trip, leaving from South Mission Beach and I want to be going too.

Beautiful day in Mission Beach

It has been an absolutely beautiful day in Mission Beach today. I really enjoyed sitting down at the beach to eat my lunch, the water was just like glass. I really wished that I didn't have to leave to come to work but I know that another day just like it is always going to come along, thats why I live here.

Wet Cross Country

It has been bucketing down with rain all day and it doesn't look like its going to stop any time soon. The Tully High School cross country is on this afternoon and at the moment the course looks more like a lake than a running track. Thankfully I'm here working at the Mission Beach Information Station instead of running around the muddy cane fields.

Mareeba Tropical Savanna & Wetland Reserve

MAREEBA: Open daily from 9am - 4.30pm this wonderful reserve is a must for the nature enthusiast. There is 2000ha of savanna woodlands, grasslands and lily-decked lagoons to explore. Visit Clancy's Lagoon Visitor Centre and drop in to the Overflow Cafe for a bit to eat. Enjoy a nature eco cruise or paddle a canoe. Jabiru Safari Lodge offer luxury tented safari cabins if you would like somewhere to stay. Reserve is closed for February-March wet season.

Mothers Day

I hope all the Mum's in Mission Beach had a lovely day yesterday. There were certainly plenty of families hanging out together on the beach. People were flying kites, building sandcastles, fishing, walking their dogs and generally having a great time. That's what I love about living in far north Queensland, we can still do this in May, gotta love that!

Buying your bus ticket

If your travelling in and out of Mission Beach by bus then there are plenty of options going North and South......but you do need to book and buy your tickets early, otherwise you may not get to where your going when you had planned to. All tickets can be purchased from the Mission Beach Information Station.

Going out to the Reef

Congratulations to Scottys

One of our local backpackers here in Mission Beach, Scotty's Beach House is celebrating their 20th birthday today. All the staff at Mission Beach Information Station would like to congratulate them and wish them all the best for the next 20 years. I wonder how many sore heads there will be at work tomorrow!
